A(으)ㄴN

‘DEFINITION

Adjectives function as two ways. One is used as ‘Sentence Ending’. The other is functioned to modify or describe the state or characteristic of the noun which called ‘Noun Modifier’. ‘A –(으) ㄴ N’ is added to an adjective stem and placed in front of noun and modifies and defines the noun.CONJUGATION

CONJUGATION

If adjective stem ends with a vowel + -ㄴ :

크다 → 큰

싸다 → 싼

예쁘다 → 예쁜

편하다 → 편한

If adjective stem ends with a consonant + -은 :

작다 → 작은(자근)

높다 → 높은(노픈)

낮다 → 낮은(나즌)

좋다 → 좋은(조은)

Irregular Conjugation 

[‘ㅂ’ irregular]

쉽다 → 쉬운

어렵다 → 어려운

[‘ㄹ’ irregular]

길다 → 긴

힘들다 → 힘든

(맛)있다 →(맛)있는

(재미) 없다 →(재미)없는

A(으)ㄴ

EXAMPLES

예쁜 옷을 사고 싶어요. → I want to buy some pretty clothes.

저는 착한 사람이 좋아요. → I like good-natured people.

DEFINITION

It is aConjunctive Ending for connecting or enumerating more than two clauses with an equal state, which is added after a verb or adjective stem of first clause. To enumerate more than two sentences with even states, ‘그리고’ is generally used.

CONJUGATION 

Remove suffix ‘’ and combine stem word with ‘’ :  

가다 → 가고

싸다 → 싸고

먹다 → 먹고

읽다 → 읽고

마시다 →  마시고

따뜻하다 → 따뜻하고

재미있다 → 재미있고

** The time tense does not need to be mentioned in every clause but is enough to be expressed in the final sentence ending only.

** There is no difference between using Conjunctives ending and Connectors but the former is a single sentence and the latter is consisted of two sentences with a full stop in the end of each sentence.

EXAMPLES 

이 치마는 싸고 예뻐요. → This skirt is cheap and pretty.

나는 학교에 가고 형은 회사에 가요. → I go to school and my elder brother works for a company.

어제 텔레비전을 보고 숙제를 했어요 → I watched TV and did my homework yesterday.

N을를N(으)로바꾸다

DEFINITION

When exchanging something for something else, verb ‘바꾸다’is used. It is an active verb so it needs object particle use ‘을/를’ and (으)로 is needed to describe ‘exchange to something’. It corresponds to ‘~exchange something(을/를) for something(으로)’ in English.

N을를N(으)로바꾸다

** ‘바꾸다’can be used without ‘(으)로’often.

EXAMPLES

이거 좀 바꿔 주세요. Exchange this please.

긴 치마로바꿀거예요. I am going to exchange this for a long skirt.

A : 어떻게 오셨어요? How can I help you?

B : 이십만 원을 달러로바꾸고 싶은데요. I’d like to exchange 200,000 won for dollar.

N보다

DEFINITION

This is one of Particles used to compare two things. The Particle ‘보다’ is added to the one (noun), which is the basis of the comparison. ‘더’, that means ‘more’ is added in front of adjectiveto enforce a sense of comparing but is optional that there is no change in meaning without it.

N보다

** Although those have different sentence structures, the meanings that imply in both sentences are the same.

A(으)ㄴ거

DEFINITION

When a thing (noun; but place and person nouns cannot be used) is already mentioned in the previous sentence, it is alright to repeat it again, but is also alright to replace it with ‘거’,which is the abbreviation form of pronoun‘것’. ‘거’ is not used alone and always comes after a Noun Modifier ‘A-(으) ㄴ’.

A(으)ㄴ거

In case when a certain thing mentioned in question, you don’t need to mention that again and replace it with ‘것’.
