Past Tense 

Remove suffix ‘다’ and combine with ‘-네요’  

가다 →  가네요

오다 → 오네요

마시다 → 마시네요

먹다 → 먹네요

읽다 → 읽네요

예쁘다 → 예쁘네요

맵다 →  맵네요

있다  → 있네요

If verb or adjective ends with ‘하다’, ‘하다 → 했네요

와! 눈이 오네요. Wow, It’s snowing!

어제 눈이 많이 왔네요.It snowed a lot yesterday.

모자가 아주 예쁘네요. your hat is just pretty.

A : 어제 이 옷을 샀어요. I bought this clothes yesterday.

B  : 아주 예쁘네요. It’s very pretty, indeed.



It is one of the Sentence Endings attached after adjectives to express changes. It is similar to ‘to become + adjective’ or ‘to turn+ adjective’ in English. This expression is only combined with an adjective thus, when one need to describe changes of states or situations with verbs, ‘V-게 되다’should be used. Since this expression describes what has changed before now, it ends generally past tense ‘아/어졌다’.


If Adjective vowel ends with ‘ㅏ’ or ‘ㅗ’ + -아지다 :   

싸다 → 싸지다

작다 → 작아지다

많다 → 많아지다

바쁘다 → 바빠지다

배고프다  → 배고파지다

In all other cases(‘ㅓ’,’ㅜ’,’ㅡ’,’ㅣ’), add ‘-어지다 ’ :   

맵다 → 매워지다 [‘ㅂ’ irregular]

춥다 → 추워지다  [‘ㅂ’ irregular]

예쁘다 → 예뻐지다 [‘ㅡ’ irregular]

힘들다 → 힘들어지다

멋있다 → 멋있어지다

If Adjective vowel ends with ‘하다’ → 해지다 :   

복잡하다 → 복잡해지다

깨끗하다 → 깨끗해지다

조용하다 → 조용해지다

쌀쌀하다 → 쌀쌀해지다

시원하다 → 시원해지다



그 백화점에 사람이 많아졌어요.  The numbers of visitors have become increased in the department store.

날씨가 따뜻해지면 공원에 갈 거예요. I will go to the park when it gets warmer.

A : 요즘 한국어 공부가 어때? How’s your studying Korean these days?

B : 아주 재미있어졌어요. It has become more interesting.




It is one of the Sentence Endings attached after verb to express changes when the change is not by speaker’s will or intention but by the action of other person or external condition or circumstance make him or her do it anyway. Also, it sometimes expresses changes as well as‘A-아/어지다’.


Remove suffix ‘다’ and combine with ‘게 되다’

오다 → 오게 되다

먹다 → 먹게 되다

읽다 → 읽게 되다

앉다 → 앉게 되다

닦다 → 닦게 되다

마시다 → 마시게 되다



처음에는 김치를 못 먹었지만 지금은 좋아하게 됐어. I couldn’t eat Kimchi at first, but I got to like it.

열심히 연습하면 잘하게 될 거예요. You’ll do well if you practice hard.

A : 어떻게 그 사람을 알게 됐어요? How did you become acquainted with the person?

B : 친구가 소개해서 알게 됐어요. My friend introduced the person to me.



It is an Adverb expressing superlatives like the bestorthe most. It’s attached before adjectives and shows that it’s the most or the best. Also, ‘가장’can be used as the same meaning.



‘A/V–(으)ㄹ까요?’ is one of Sentence Endings attached after adjectives or verbs and is used to suppositively ask about listener’s opinion or preference. The supposition about in something uses ‘A-(으)ㄹ까요?’ and about something happened in the past uses ‘A/V-았/었을까요?’.

* As for answering to this pattern, ‘A/V-(으)ㄹ 거예요 ‘or A/V-(으)ㄴ/는 것 같아요’ can be used since this sentence ending is a form of question.


내일회사 가는 길이 복잡할까요?Do you think the way to go to my company is jammed?

어제 일이 힘들었을까요? Do you think it was hard to work yesterday?

A : 다음 달에 애니 씨가 한국에 올까요? Do you think Annie will come tomorrow.

B :아마 올 거에요. I guess so.



Itis Sentence Ending,attached after verbs and adjectives, which indicates the speaker’s reasonable guess from his or hers personal experience or something to be seen or heard from trustworthy sources such as books or news. Its formal closing equivalent with this expression is ‘(으) ㄹ 것 입니다’.

*   When it comes to Intention of someone, ‘겠다’will be applied only by 1st person.

**   A/V-겠다 is a supposition based on speaker’s direct perceptionhowever,A/V-(으)ㄹ 것이다is a supposition derived from the information acquired by other sources not by his or her own judgment.
